This week it feels like we’ve hit a special milestone. On the one hand, it’s an oh-so familiar feeling, but then again it’s so new and exciting! I sunk my feet into our first batch of Kentucky cob a few days ago. I’ve mixed hundreds of batches of cob by now, but they’ve of course all been made in our former home of Missouri. Mixing up this cob in Kentucky is another little landmark along our path to arrival and settling in here.
I just had to share my excitement about that. This cob is destined for the oven we are currently building at the Clear Creek Festival grounds. The oven is intended for use during our 2 day Cob Oven Workshop in July. We just can’t throw a good oven workshop without a big ol’ pizza party to conclude it, you know? Of course the oven will be lovingly employed by our workshop site hosts Bob and Carrie for their own baking adventures, and for any number of events they will host on their land in the future.
I’ve been surprised how different the quality of the sand and clay is here, too. It will take a little bit of adapting to get to know the clay a little better.
More photo updates on our latest outdoor oven soon, too!
