Strawtron: straw bale house

We’re back in Strawtron, ready to make some exciting improvements

A couple of weeks ago, we decided to make a return trip to Dancing Rabbit to do some more finish work on Strawtron, our timber frame/straw bale home that’s on the market. We’ve arrived now, and have big plans for the next few weeks, including finishing the interior earthen plaster, putting another coat of lime and lime wash outside, and… wiring it for electricity. I never thought I’d say that, but alas…. there you have it. Strawtron will be firmly moving into the solar-powered 21st century.

No doubt Strawtron will be even more comfortable than before. Though we knew we might likely be moving from Dancing Rabbit while we originally built the house, we still designed it according to our own needs at the time. Now we’re equipping it with electricity (which we had never planned to use), and I think it will have a much wider appeal as a result. It will be very tastefully done, and Jacob will head up the operation with his excellent wiring experience.

April and I and our friend Tyler will head up finish plaster, inside and out. We’ll also install a finish ceiling surface. Strawtron is going to look better than ever, and I’m excited to share news as we make progress. Updates will probably be a bit slow, as we’ll be working our butts off… so The Year of Mud may be quiet for a while. We shall see.

Stay tuned!
