Snow Day 2016

Snow day!

As a kid, my favorite thing about going to public school was the snow days. (Except when we had so many that they crept into our summer vacations, that is.) Thankfully, as an adult I can appreciate the snow for more than its uncanny ability to shut down school. Anyone on a significant stretch of the east coast is getting a good dose of snow right now, and we were no exception. We got a good 14″+ here, and it’s beautiful.

As the snow melts, it will be a good observation opportunity. One of the main permaculture principles suggest that we “observe and interact”. Seeing where the snow melts first and last are good indications of potential little microclimates that might exist on the land, so I plan on trekking around on the snowmelt days to see what I find.

The view across the road… also, can you see our driveway?

April’s been taking advantage of the time now to crochet some really beautiful little baby items, including an adorable hat and diaper cover and booties. She says I can’t share the photos… yet. I’ve been working on woodworking projects around the house — building shelves, trimming windows, making a changing station. (Five weeks to go until April’s due date…)

Whenever we get some decent light, I hope to capture some images of more of our remodeling work in the new house. Things are looking good right now, and the new cook stove is doing a fantastic job of keeping us warm. Until next time…
